The Chicagoland Chapter of the Materials Handling & Management Society (MHMS) brings together material handling practitioners and other members of the greater Chicagoland area material handling community.
Throughout the year, we sponsor a number of special events to help our members keep up-to-date on recent advances in the industry and how local material handling professionals are responding to the challenges they face in today's competitive business environment.
The Materials Handling & Management Society is an independent, non-profit 501(c)(6) organization dedicated to providing career development and recognition for material handling professionals.
This commitment extends to anyone whose responsibilities embrace the planning, design, deployment or operation of equipment and systems that are fundamental to the productive and safe movement, storage, control, and protection of goods through the use of material handling products and practices.
This mission is accomplished through our stakeholders: the members, chapters and our affiliations with related organizations.
It has been a very unusual time for our industry and our association this past year or so. We have not had an in-person meeting or tour since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020. We even decided it was best to cancel our 2020 golf outing. Despite these circumstances, our board has been working behind the scenes and conducting Zoom meetings. Sadly, we were not able to schedule any tours or events.
I stepped in as President towards the end of 2020. And we have recruited a few new board member volunteers. Check out who our board members are on our website.
Despite these difficulties our industry as essential workers in the material handing/supply chain profession, we continued to bring products and services to our business customers and to consumers. Some have even flourished as the need for certain goods and services grew exponentially. As the economy picks up from its health crisis slowdown, we all continue to work every day making sure that goods and services move through the supply chain. I am so very proud of the work being done at all companies. It is a tribute to the dedication of all employees who struggled and worked through these really difficult times. Some have suffered from the Covid-19, and others came to work every day despite the potential of becoming yet another victim of this horrible virus.
Now that both science and statistics show promise of return to normalcy increasing daily and with more of the population becoming vaccinated against Covid-19, our board of directors has decided to go ahead with our annual golf outing on August 6, 2021. This will allow us to contribute the proceeds to our scholarship fund. Since we had to cancel our 2020 golf outing, we were not able to award any scholarships this year. With your participation, we will be able to offer scholarships in 2022. I encourage you to come out and enjoy a day at this outside event. We have a limited number of slots available, so sign up early to enjoy the outdoors, do some networking and play golf.
